A Marine lance corporal has become the first female Marine in history to graduate the Basic Reconnaissance Course, earning the military occupational specialty of 0321 Reconnaissance Marine.

Lance Cpl. Alexa Barth completed the 12-week course on Nov. 7, said Maj. Kendra Motz, a Marine spokeswoman. Barth previously graduated from the Corps’ Infantry Training Battalion, earning the MOS of 0311 Rifleman.

Army Rangers of WWII, congressional Gold Medal, D Day -

Bills have been introduced in the House and Senate to award the Army Rangers of World War II the medal, the highest civilian award bestowed by the United States, along with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Retired Maj. Gen. John Raaen, 97, said in an interview Friday that the award, if approved, would come as a "final act of recognition" for the service of Rangers in all theaters of World War II, including the legendary "Boys of Pointe du Hoc."

When you think of a hero, what do you think about? Hero's come in a lot of shapes and forms from our common citizen to our war hero with all their medals and ribbons. There are other hero's that dont even get the recognition of the heroic deeds they have done. We have the oil field workers, rail road workers, public service workers and the Miners among other professions that put their lives on the line everyday so we can have the luxury of even having the ability to turn on a light or stay warm in these brisk winter months.

Augusta Marie Chiwy (6 June 1921 – 23 August 2015) was a Belgian nurse who served as a volunteer during the siege of Bastogne.She worked with U.S. Army physician John Prior and with fellow Belgian nurse Renée Lemaire, treating injured soldiers during the Battle of the Bulge.
